Η φετινή χρονιά μετά από επικρίσεις εναντίον της Ένωσης Ανταποκριών Ξένου Τύπου του Χόλιγουντ για έλλειψη φυλετικής ποικιλομορφίας, πραγματοποιήθηκε σε πολύ χαμηλούς τόνους, χωρίς ζωντανή μετάδοση και φυσικά χωρίς λαμπερές εμφανίσεις. Οι νικητές ωστόσο ανακοινώθηκαν κανονικά, δίνοντάς μας και μια γεύση από τα Όσκαρ του 2022.
